If you are a retired educator or public school employee who receives an annuity check from TRTA or any other state retirement system, you are invited to become a part of the only organization which works to protect your retirement benefits.

South Montgomery Area Retired Teachers (SMART) is the local unit of TRTA and we invite all who are eligible to join us and take part in our projects and stay aware of those activities which are important to you as a retired school employee.

You may contact the membership chair, Judith Odell, by email: rfo1@mac.com or the treasurer, Barbara Hamilton (see membership form for more information)

Dues for TRTA and SMART can be sent to our treasurer, Barbara Hamilton. The TRTA dues are $35 and local dues are $10.  If your TRTA dues are paid by payroll deduction, you will pay only local dues ($10).  The membership form with detailed information can be found under the MEMBERSHIP tab.

SMART has several on-going projects which we invite you to support.

A scholarship fund is used to grant financial aid to eligible nominees in education.  The unit collects funds in order to provide this assistance.   You can get details at our next meeting.

The Children's Book Project involves collecting books and /or funds to purchase books to give to school children as an encouragement for them to improve their reading skills.  Members may purchase books and bring them to the monthly meetings or make contributions so books may be bought.

S.M.A.R.T. supports the Texas Retired Teachers Foundation and encourages individual members to do the same. The foundation provides asistances to retirees in dire need and gives grants and scholarships to deserving recipients at the state level.

Members are encouraged to invite their retired educator friends to become members of SMART and TRTA through the coming year.  As your friends retire, please invite them to consider allying with SMART and TRTA.   Your friends become a part of the only organization that advocates for ALL retired education employees.
