Two local teachers were awarded Classroom Assistant grants from Texas Retired Teachers Foundation--Philip Beard from Comanche HS and Kellie Morris from DeLeon HS.
The Texas Retired Teachers Foundation is a program through the Texas Retired Teachers Association. It is dedicated to helping active and retired educators and has given over $420,000 to the education community since 1988. Each year this program gives 21 Beginning Teacher Scholarships and 30 Classroom Assistance Grants throughout the state, as well as aiding needy retirees through the Helping Hand Program.
Kellie Morris is an agriculture teacher at DeLeon High School. She plans to fund an ongoing project that begins with hatching eggs and raising small chicks to pullet stage. The grant money will help purchase items, including an incubator and camera, to help with the project.
Philip Beard teaches underwater welding at Comanche High School. He plans to purchase a small swimming pool or plastic storage tank in order to incorporate full submersion of participants in underwater welding.
