Welcome!

Welcome to the Mainland Retired Teachers Association web site! We welcome retired teachers, administrators, and all support personnel, as well as nutrition, custodial, transportation, and maintenance services personnel. Most of our members come from the Texas City, La Marque, Dickinson, Santa Fe, and Hitchcock School Districts, as well as College of the Mainland. We meet on the third Wednesday of each month from September through May.  Come join us at 12:30 p.m. and share friendship and refreshments with other retired personnel before each meeting begins.  The meetings, held at Nessler Civic Center, 2010 5th Avenue North in Texas City, will keep you informed of the latest that TRTA is doing to protect and improve our TRS benefits.

Dues are $50 for the year 2018-2019.  $35 of that amount goes to TRTA for state dues, and the other $15 is to cover local expenses and help with our Children's Book Project in the fall and in the spring, our scholarship for a graduate planning to pursue a degree in education.  If you would like to join, you can mail a check made out to MRTA to Treasurer, Pauline Liggio, at 17231 Saturn Lane, Houston, TX 77058-2293.

Join us for our meeting on September 19 in the Captain's Room of Nessler Center at 12:30 p.m. We will have a Political Forum with candidates for State Representative District 23.  Candidates will be asked about their stand on issues related to the TRS pension fund and health care, as well as public education.

Looking ahead:

On  October 17, Kathryn Holmes from CASA will speak to us about the work that CASA does.

On November 14, MRTA members will gather to wrap our 900 Books for Children.
