The Houston-Harris County Retired Teachers Association was organized January 1951, under the direction of the late Mr. William Leonard Davis and six other retired teachers.  The unit joined the Texas Retired Teachers Association in 1967, under the administration of Mrs.  M. O. Sledge.  It was chartered by the National Retired Teachers Association in 1972, under the administration of Dr. James Stanley.



The aim of the Houston-Harris County Retired Teachers Association is to support the State and National Retired Teachers Associations in their legislative efforts for the improvement of life for all retirees, to maintain support with the young people of the community, and to continue the process of learning.


The Houston-Harris County Retired Teachers Association Local Unit: 
Meets:    the Last Thursday of each month, September through May, EXCEPT December 
Meeting time:  1:00-2:30 p.m.  at the Bayland Community Center
                                                     6400 Bissonnet, Houston, Texas.

"REGAIN, RETAIN, RECRUIT" TEAMS focus is to increase our local membership by 30 new members. Each Chair is encouraged to bring at least one new member, whoever bring the most will receive special recognition (bragging rights) and a special award.  
**The District  "Each One, Bring One"  -   Membership Drive Contest...The member who brings in the most new members will be entered in the state (TRTA) contest to win $100 and the local (HHCRTA) contest to win a special prize. 
Annual Christmas Scholarship Luncheon   Power Center  - 12401 South Post Oak - Ticket Cost $50.00 each or $500.00 per table - Saturday, December 9, 2017, 11:00 a.m..  Please submit names of outstanding persons who you feel are deserving of this honor to Faye Moseley, Chair.  For ticket information contact 713-582-7074.
Scholarship CommitteeThe luncheon will also help raise money for scholarship. As educators, we know the importance of obtaining a higher education and we have always helped by supporting high school graduates.  And we will honor individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, dedication and service to the Houston community the Christmas luncheon. 
Souvenir Book Committee.        By placing an ad in the Souvenir Book help with scholarship funding.  SPECIAL NOTE:  The price of the FULL PAGE has changed to $150, all others are the same price.  DEADLINE: November 18    Contact:  Willie Burgs for more information.                                                          
Community Volunteer Committee  Please keep a record of your volunteer service hours.  Any type of service without pay is applicable.  In November you will give this information to Flossie Sylvester (713-721-3220) on the proper form.
Children's Book ProjectMembers are asked to donate new books for children in elementay grades.  Books may be purchased from dollar stores, book stores, book fairs...or monetary donations may be made to the Children's Book Project committee.  A collection will be made available at each meeting.  Your support will be greatly appreciated.
