HISTORICAL  NOTES

The Houston-Harris County Retired Teachers Association was organized January 1951, under the direction of the late Mr. William Leonard Davis and six other retired teachers.  The unit joined the Texas Retired Teachers Association in 1967, under the administration of Mrs.  M. O. Sledge.  It was chartered by the National Retired Teachers Association in 1972, under the administration of Dr. James Stanley.

 

AIM

The aim of the Houston-Harris County Retired Teachers Association is to support the State and National Retired Teachers Associations in their legislative efforts for the improvement of life for all retirees, to maintain support with the young people of the community, and to continue the process of learning.

 

DATES TO REMEMBER

The Houston-Harris County Retired Teachers Association will meet the last Thursday of each month, September through May, except December.  Meetings are1:00-2:30 p.m. at the Bayland Community Center, 6400 Bissonnet, Houston, Texas.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

"Each One, Bring One"  -  Join the Membership Drive Contest...The member who brings in the most new members will be entered in the state (TRTA) contest to win $100 and the local (HHCRTA) contest to win s special prize.  Prizes will be given locally to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.
Annual Christmas Honors Luncheon   Power Center  - 12401 South Post Oak - Ticket Cost $45.00 each or $450.00 per table - Saturday, December 10, 2016, 11:00a.m..  Please submit names of outstanding persons who you feel are deserving of this honor to Helena Pierson at 281-530-6972.
Community Volunteer Committee  Please keep a record of your volunteer service hours.  Any type of service without pay is applicable.  In November you will give this information to Flossie Sylvester (713-721-3220) on the proper form.
Support the Children's Book Project.  Members are asked to donate new books for children in elementay grades.  Books may be purchased from dollar stores, book stores, book fairs...or monetary donations may be made to the Children's Book Project committee of which Patricia Miller (713-283-1219) is the chairman.
