NOTES FROM DISTRICT PRESIDENT’S TRAINING

July 8-10, 2014

  • District Chairman – could you write two or three goals for your chairmanship this year.  It was suggested that the goals could be put on the District web page.
  • The TRTA Health Chairman will be giving Silver and Gold awards that will be handed out at the Fall Conference.
  • All training manuals are on a CD or on the TRTA web site under the ‘About Us’ tab.
  • Tell school districts and others about the “Before the Bell” web site.  www.beforethebell.org          There is a section on the right hand side for retired educators.  Great information about TRS CARE under that section.
  • Sign up for a “Before the Bell” e-newsletter.  Go to the bottom of the right side to do so.
  • Historians – take a picture of unit officers and send to the state historian for the 2015 Convention slide show.  At the 2016 Convention they will use multiple pictures from a unit for the slide show.
  • This year Districts will still receive $2/active member.  The money from the dues increase went to the general fund to replace a deficit in 2012-2013, and to buy the building.  District will receive $3 per Active member in the 2015-2016 year.
  • District 20 Officers and Chairman – please bring your TRTA number to me on August 7th as the state pulls address and phone numbers using the TRTA number
  • Ask members to sign up for the Inside Line directly.  When using the Voter Voice, be sure to add a personal memo.
  • Local unit web sites need to be updated on a regular basis
  • Look at ‘at-large’ members as a voice to the legislature, not a liability to the local unit.
  • District Presidents got the deadline for local officer/chairman information moved back to May 1st.  If current information is correct – all one needs to put is the name and the TRTA #.
  • At a local unit meeting recognize those who have filled out an “Each One Bring One” form.  Publicize this contest.
  • Local Unit presidents will receive a Leadership Manuel like District Presidents have.
  • WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR DISTRICT 20?  WHAT SHOULD DISTIRCT 20’S VISION BE?
