The next meeting meeting will the on March 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m at the Senior Activity Center in Burleson.  The program will be presented Lance Tahmahkera, great grandson of  Quanah Parker.

T.he Burleson Area Retired School Employees Association met on Monday,February 11, 2019 at the the Senior Activity Center in Burleson.  We hosted the annual joint meeting with Johnson/Somerveil County ARSEA.  Tim Lee, TRTA state director, was suppose to be the featured speaker. However, he was scheduled to speak to the Senate Finance Committee concerning TRS funding and TRS Care funding.  Brock Gregg , associate director, came in his place and did an excellent job of  sharing information on issues they will be focusing on during this legislative session.The key is "raising the base" for TRS and TRS Care.  Brock brought a handout with details and numbers on how this can be done.  Tim is sharing this information on "The Inside Line"  on a regular basis.  For more pictures and information go to the meetings section on the above tool bar.


Upcoming Events

TRTA State Convention : Monday and Tuesday,  April 1-2;  Theme is "Connecting the Dots"..  It is being held at the Austin Hilton near the capitol.   BARSEA qualifies for 4 delegates.  The district will be taking a bus.  The bus will leave the Radison Hotel on Alta Mesa and 35 at 6:00 a.m. Payment of $50 is needed by March 1, 2019. 

Rally Day at the Capitol:  Wednesday, April 3.  District XI is also furnishing a bus for this day.  Those interested in going just for Rally Day and taking the bus will need to send a check for $30 to the District XI Treasurer made out to TRTA District XI.  When you get on the bus, your check will be returned to you.  

District XI Spring Leadership Conference:  Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the ESC in White Settlement.  This meeting is training of officers and committees chairs for local units.

Regular meeting begin with "Meet, Greet, Eat" at 1:30 p.m.  The program and business meeting begins at 2:00 p.m. Luncheon meetings begin at 11:30 a.m. in September, December, March, and June.  All meetings except the Christmas lunch are held at the Burleson Senior Activity Center, 216 SW Johnson Ave, Burleson, 76028


BARSEA is the grass roots organization which provides a link between local members, the district, and the state organizations.  Local units support the purpose and goals of the Texas Retired Teacher Association.  The following is a list of the purpose and mission of TRTA.

The Voice for All Public Education Retirees

The purposes of TRTA shall be to:
1.  Promote the preservation and maintenance of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas Pension Trust Fund for purposes as established in Article XVI, Section 67 of the Constitution of the State of Texas;
2.  Encourage the Texas Legislature and the Teacher Retirement System of Texas Board of Trustees to ensure that the Pension Trust Fund is preserved to pay, upon retirement, annuities and future annuity increases to the
retired members of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas; and
3.  Work with the Texas Legislature and the United States Congress to protect, promote and defend the interests of Teacher Retirement System of Texas members.
