The next meeting of the Burleson Area Retired School Employees will be Monday, March 13 at the Burleson Senior Activity Center. This will be a lunch meeting since we will be hosting about 17 members from the Johnson/Somerveill County local unit.  Therefore, you are asked to bring covered dish.  The program will be a legislative update by Jack Teddlie, District XI legislative chairman.  Hope to see see you there.  We would really like to have good representation from BARSEA members. 


TRTA State Convention and Rally Day:

BARSEA qualifies to send 4 delegates to the convention. The delegates attending are JoAnn Haedge, Philo Waters, Mary Slaney, and Linda Hampton.  Roland Haedge, BARSEA treasurer, will attend as a guest.  Delegates will also be attending the "Rally Day" events.  Pat Lioce will be attending as a District XI delegate.

Rally Day at the Capitol is Wednesday  March 29th. The purpose is to let our representative see and talk to us about our issues especially health care.  District XI will be underwriting a bus to Austin for "Rally Day" for those that wish to go only for the day.  To reserve a place on the bus, send a check for $25 to Jack Teddlie, 2320 Primrose Ave., Fort Worth, TX 76111 made out to TRTA Dist. XI.  Upon boarding the bus, you will receive you check back.  If you do not show up for the bus, your check will be deposited to the District account.  Checks should be sent by March 1.  The bus will be leaving on March 29th at 5:30 a.m. from the Radisson Hotel in south Ft. Worth, 100 Altamesa Blvd, Fort Worth 76`134.


Regular meeting begin with "Meet, Greet, Eat" at 1:30 p.m.  The program and business meeting begins at 2:00 p.m. Luncheon meetings begin at 11:30 a.m. in September, December, March, and June.  All meetings except the Christmas lunch are held at the Burleson Senior Activity Center, 216 SW Johnson Ave, Burleson, 76028


BARSEA is the grass roots organization which provides a link between local members, the district, and the state organizations.  Local units support the purpose and goals of the Texas Retired Teacher Association.  The following is a list of the purpose and mission of TRTA.

The Voice for All Public Education Retirees

The purposes of TRTA shall be to:
1.  Promote the preservation and maintenance of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas Pension Trust Fund for purposes as established in Article XVI, Section 67 of the Constitution of the State of Texas;
2.  Encourage the Texas Legislature and the Teacher Retirement System of Texas Board of Trustees to ensure that the Pension Trust Fund is preserved to pay, upon retirement, annuities and future annuity increases to the
retired members of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas; and
3.  Work with the Texas Legislature and the United States Congress to protect, promote and defend the interests of Teacher Retirement System of Texas members.
