Scholarship Program

Each year our unit awards scholarships to university students pursuing a degree in education.  This year we are having a Bake Sale in November to raise money for the scholarship fund.

2017-2018   $1,000 Scholarship was awarded to Andylynn Schmidt of Temple High School who will attend Sam Houston State University.

Children's Book Drive Project

Our unit participates in the State-Wide Children's Book Drive Project.  Members donate $5.00 or a new children's book.  Local children who have little or no access to books will receive the books collected and purchased through the donations. In 2017-2018, the Bell County local unit gave books to students at Leon Heights in Belton and Troy Elementary in Troy. Statewide 135,659 books were delivered to children in 2017-2018.

Community Service

All members are encouraged to volunteer in the community.  Each member will turn in the hours they volunteered at the January meeting. TRTA members volunteered 6,210,972 hours statewide in 2017.

Every Step Counts

To fully enjoy retirement, members are encouraged to stay healthy.  An easy way to stay healthy is to walk daily.  Members keep up with the steps they walk and report this to the Health Care Chairperson.  This is given to the state office for a state-wide tabulation.
